Reasons For The Revolution Of The American Revolution
Circumstances that lead colonists to the American Revolution The American Revolution was one that was not started in a day, a week, or even a year. Rather, there were many actions taken and many circumstances that led the colonies toward a revolt. The clashing of colonists and the British caused ill feelings and tensions that built up to violence in some cases. Though the most important of those many factors may be debated, there are 3 that can be broken down to show their significance. The repression of the colonies by the British Parliament through passing of unfair laws, excessive taxation and blockade actions, and British military and Colonial actions that instigated uprisings. The new found colonial spirit structured a culture that began to inspire freedom and innovation for trade. This did not fare well with the British Parliament and after varied successes in the colonies, the Parliament began to see the colonial spirit as a threat. British Parliament attempted to repress the colonies and break the bonds of the culture that the colonies were building. The passing of different proclamations and laws would be the biggest attempts at oppression Parliament would try. After the defeating the French in the Seven Years War, the colonies acquired land west of their settlements. Essay on Mary Shelleys Frankenstein and Bladerunner
Similarities between Frankenstein and Bladerunner Many similarities can be found between Mary Shelleys 1816 novel, Frankenstein and the 1982 movie Bladerunner . The number of similarities between these two works, created more than two hundred years apart, is staggering. A cursory look at both works reveals these similarities: Both stories feature a very intelligent person trying to play God through the creation of life. Both of the creatures were subsequently mistreated by their maker and society as a whole. In both stories, the audience is left feeling greater sympathy for the monster than for the creator. Both stories contain a very intelligent creator who seems unaware of the forces that they are dealing with. Summary Response of the Earth Is Full Free Essays
In his article, The Earth Is Full, Friedman (2011) begins by stating that in recent years, first decade of 21st century, humanity encounters dangers that threaten humanity and the nature because of their unconcerned behaviors. Economic problems, high growing population rate and natural disasters compel humans to question about those recent years. The writer then moves on to the veteran Australian environmentalist-entrepreneur Paul Gilding and his book, Gilding, P. We will write a custom essay sample on Summary Response of the Earth Is Full or any similar topic only for you Order Now (2011) The Great Disruption: Why the climate crisis will bring on the end of shopping and the birth of a new world. According to Gilding (2011), earth is growing at a dangerous rate and points out that over-used resources and worsening ecologic environment damage to social and economic system. Friedman reports the current growth rate is 150 percent of earthââ¬â¢s sustainable capacity and states that excessive use of resources and too much waste that creates the problem, ââ¬Å"The Earth Is Full. He mentions about two loops; first, population growth and global warming push up food prices, which leads to political instability, which leads to higher oil prices, which leads to higher food prices, and so on in a insurmountable circle. Second, higher productivity means fewer jobs, which requires humans to produce more sources to create jobs. The more sources create global warming. Afterwards, the writer turns his attention to possible solutions . The solutions are discussed by giving Gildingââ¬â¢s eco-optimist view. In the article, also it is stated that economic systems are not changed without a crisis. Friedman (2011) states that ââ¬Å"But donââ¬â¢t worry, weââ¬â¢re getting there. â⬠Finally, Friedman prefers to use quotations from Gilding who say nations are heading for a crisis-driven choice and develop a new sustainable economic model slowly. Global warming, starvation, worsening ecological environment, exhaustion of resources, too much waste and the conflict between humanity and nature are very current and serious problems of the entire world. In the article these problems are discussed based on the fundamental source of the problems, high population rate. Also, based on Sullivan, M. 1999) Population control: How many are too many? , she states ââ¬Å" Global warming, the thinning of the ozone layer, increasing crime rates, toxic chemicals in our food, and starvation in developing nations, each of which is at least partially due to growing world populationâ⬠(Sullivan, 1999). Exploring Breakdown In Global Virtual Teams -Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Exploring Breakdown In Global Virtual Teams? Answer: Introduction Bloom et al. (2014) stated that communication plays a crucial role in the organization and through effective communication managers in the organizations perform their basic responsibilities. These responsibilities are leading and controlling people, planning strategies and organizing the resources in order to accomplish the organizational objectives. McChesney (2015) depict that communication promotes motivation as everyone can participate in a decision-making process. On the other hand, Den Hartog et al. (2013) affirm that communication helps people to share their concern with proper logic. Large firms use a different type of communication strategies like internal and external communication (Bloom et al., 2014). These companies also emphasize on both verbal and non-verbal communication approach for a better result. The prime aim of this business report is to discuss the communication process in a larger firm. Relevant examples of both excellent and poor communications occurred in big forms will also discussed along with types or forms of communication used in these firms. Moreover, the nature of the communications used in the firms will be compared and the factors for the success and failure of the opted communication methods will also be illustrated. The discussion will also comprise of the details of the approaches through which each selected communication method for the betterment of the organization. Lastly, an overall conclusion will be presented based on the entire discussion. Discussion and analysis of findings Hartley (2012) stated that in big firms the management should encourage every employee to share their concern. This will allow them to enhance their knowledge base and a best-optimized way to accomplish the organization objectives. Cornelissen and Cornelissen (2017) highlighted that conducting regular meeting is one of the most effective communication ways that is followed in big firms. This type of communication is also known as internal communication. The benefit of regular communication allows the employees to focus on the organizational goals and monitor their performance compared to that of the others. Castells (2013) highlight that lack of justifications and poor approach through written communication medium, adverse result can be obtained. Taken for instance, in the year 2013, Yahoos HR department send a mail to all their employees that no employee will be allowed for work from home. These employees either have to join the office or quit. Daim et al. (2012) stated that this incident raises disappointment among the employee as no prior notice was sent to the employees. The CEO of the organization denied that the company does not prefer to discuss internal matters. However, two months later, the memo holding such decision leaked in public. Bovee et al. (2016) thus depict that poorly written emails can disrupts the communication by distorting the information. Castells (2013) suggested that in written communication medium all the details regarding a decision should have to be present along with the reason for taking such actions. Communication Research Communication is the approach where a sender sends a message or information and then shares it with the receiver (Hartley, 2012). However, these messages are transmitted through several form of communication medium that are discussed below: Face-To-Face Communication Jiang et al. (2012) stated that this type of communication requires the physical presence of both sender and receiver and is also known as the oldest form of communication. This face-to-face communication can be accomplished through meetings, formal and informal gatherings. Cornelissen and Cornelissen (2017) depict that the advantage of this type of communication ensures high level of mutual understanding. Written Communication Not all the communication between the managers and the employee are done verbally. McChesney (2015) portrays that in some cases written form like formal letters, bulletin boards, business memos and posters are formulated. These forms of communication are mainly used for one-way communication. Wright et al. (2013) however argued that, the choice of words plays an important role to convey the message. Pictorial representation can also be used in order to make every employee understand regarding the new policy or new approaches. Web Conferencing Kear et al. (2012) depict that this is a recent used technique for communication where employee in distant place or onsite client can be contacted. This type of communication is not a direct face-to-face communication but message are conveyed directly in form of words. Ellingson and Notbohm (2012) stated that larger firms like multi-national companies use this method to know the status of the work. In this way, the employee also sense the feeling of being valued and they get motivation to outperform. Social Intranet Software Reilly and Hynan (2014) stated that in recent times, the traditional way to communicate with employee often fails due to lack of an easy way to connect together or communication breakdown among different departments. This adversity may also rise from missing documents during the process of communication and unclear orientation of the policy. Thus, larger firms like Vodafone use the concept of social intranet software that helps the organization to engage their employees through internet (Gustafsson et al., 2012). Group Messaging This way of communication is different from formal talking. Coombs (2014) stated that informal medium of communication like chat tools and group messaging allow employees to collaborate effectively. This medium of communication also ensures the teamwork even after the office hours (Reilly Hynan, 2014). Employees can share some ideas and solution to problem at anytime of the day with their team members. Communication Methodology Reilly and Hynan (2014) stated that face-to-face communication allow the people to share thoughts and ideas directly and a mutually agreed solution can be formed in real time. However, in case of mail or other written communication tool, there is a chance for employees to misunderstand the main motive behind the information. In such cases, the suggestion from other employees regarding the information and then reply from manager on the same took more time than face-to-face meetings. On the other hand, Bloom et al. (2014) stated that social media and personal chat system might allow employee to connect with the organization with interest. In this technological world, people spend 8 hours on average in social media sites as it promotes their interest to communicate with know people. However, McChesney (2015) argued that excess use of social media or personal chats and messaging tools might hamper the professionalism among the employees. Taken for instance, Yahoos employees felt disappointed when they received a sudden mail from their higher authorities without prior notice. These employees had been asked to shift to the office on the next day or the option for quitting the job was suggested to them. Coombs (2014) on the other hand highlight that companies like Vodafone developed social enterprise tool Circle. This circle allow the employee to share external behaviors in order to enhance the knowledge sharing. The benefit can be seen through the result that 15,000 unique users were identified over the next 12 months from the implementation of the circle. In recent times, Vodafones social enterprise tool Circle has 76,000 registered users (Kear et al., 2012). The factors that did not work for the company Yahoo are giving less value to the employees, poor choice of words and lack of determination to follow the organizational culture. Moreover, the communication option through the social circle in case of Vodafone proved to be a great success because they emphasize on employee brand alignment, value the recent trend to communicate with team members, employee involvement and Vodafones one team culture. Report Analysis The use of only written communication can never bring success and it does not allow two-way communication. Bovee et al. (2016) thus stated that formal communication through e-mails, newsletters and bulletins does not allow employees to make a quick reply. Hartley (2012) furthermore depict that even if an employee desires to state some recommendations in the taken strategies, it takes huge time to research on those points and then implement on the same. This also shows the lack of meeting prior taking the decision. Coombs (2014) argued that this approach thus results in lack of employee motivation and they may not perform their job roles with responsibility. This will furthermore lead to lower productivity and low brand recognition. On the other hand, considering employees will motivate them to remain associated with the organization. Involvement of employees in meetings or decision making process, allow them to feel an important asset for the organization (Wright et al., 2013). Jiang et al. (2012) also state that use of social media platform allows people to suggest ideas and encourage two-way communication. In this way, the employee will get the motivation to outperform and highlight them in front of other with effective ideas. This process also enhances the collaboration and work performance that further impacts the productivity. Conclusion Thus, it can be concluded from the above discussion that a communication method is considered to be effective in an organization if more employees are satisfied through the medium. The communication form should be a two-way communication so that active discussion can be made. Examples of Yahoo and Vodafone are taken into consideration, whereas in the first case, a strict e-mail drives disappointment among the employee and in the second case, employee feel motivated to present ideas that enhance their collaborative work. It can also be said that in order to make the employee more satisfied, larger firms should adopt a recent and most preferred mode of communication. Accounting Equation Paper Essays - Free Essays, Term Papers
Accounting Equation Paper Essays - Free Essays, Term Papers Accounting Equation Paper ACC/300 April 13, 2015 Accounting Equation Paper The accounting equation is displayed as, assets = liabilities + stockholders equity. This simple equation, that can actually be rather complex at times, is the basis for what is known as the double-entry accounting system (Investopedia, 2015). The double-entry accounting system is also used to create and maintain an organizations balance sheet. According to Investopedia (2015), The balance sheet is a complex display of this equation, showing that the total assets of a company are equal to the total of liabilities and shareholder equity (Accounting Equation). With this paper, I will examine the components of the accounting equation and balance sheet, and provide examples of this equation. As previously stated the accounting equations is comprised of assets, liabilities, and stockholders equity. Assets are resources that have a value to an organization such as; cash, accounts receivable, inventory, equipment, etc. (Accounting Coach, 2015, What are Assets). Liabilities are financial responsibilities of an organization such as; accounts payable, wages, interest, taxes, etc. (Accounting Coach, 2015, Balance Sheet). Stockholders equity is defined as the owners claim to assets (Kimmel, Weygandt, The double-entry accounting system, according to Investopedia (2015), Is based on the fact that every financial transaction has equal and opposite effects in at least two different accounts (Double Entry). When an organization begins, it starts with the standard accounting equation of assets = liabilities + equity. The initial equation with number listed will be $0 = $0 + $0. When the owners of the organization input their money, let say $1000, the equation will look like this: $1000 = $0 + $1000. Now let say that the organization decided to do $500 worth of advertising, the equation would now change to the following: $1000 = $500 + $500. Finally, let say that the organization makes its first sale worth $300 because of the advertising, the equation would now change to: $1300 = $500 + $800. References Accounting Coach. (2015). The Blues Meaning and Significance
The Blues Meaning and Significance What is the blues? It seems that the answer to this question can be easily found while examining its peculiarities as the music style, but this issue remains to be one of the most controversial questions which are associated with the blues as the music and philosophy.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Blues Meaning and Significance specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Moreover, the attempts to define the blues as a notion gave the start for the discussions of the blues as the expression of the African-Americansââ¬â¢ identity and the possibility to play this music by white people. Thus, can white people play the blues? To examine the problem and give the reliable answer, it is necessary to pay attention to the blues as the cultural phenomenon and to its ethical significance. In his work ââ¬Å"The Blues as Cultural Expressionâ⬠, Phillip Jenkins gives the answer to the question and discusses the blues from severa l approaches to it as the cultural and aesthetical phenomenon. Jenkins states that it is necessary to differentiate between two understandings of the blues in order to be right while answering this provocative question. Thus, he accentuates the blues as ââ¬Å"the cultural expressionâ⬠and as ââ¬Å"the musical formâ⬠[1]. When people speak about the blues as the cultural expression it is important to focus on the fact that white people cannot play the blues because they do not have those national identity and historical, social, and cultural experience and background which the African-Americans have. However, when we speak about the musical form it is possible to state that ââ¬Å"the blues is really nothing more than sound patterns or forms that require only the ability to manipulate the instruments (including the voice) in the right wayâ⬠[2]. That is why white people can follow the blues techniques and play it. Nevertheless, is it a real blues? In their work ââ¬Å" Even White Folks Get the Bluesâ⬠, Douglas and Nathaniel Langston argue the first one of Jenkinsââ¬â¢s principles and support the second statement about the blues as the possibility of white people to play the blues as the musical form[3]. Their argument is based on the idea that it is unnecessary for people to be black, if they come from the South and feel the blues as the African-Americans do. Moreover, the blues can exist in the world of white people as the specific form known as the white blues[4]. That is why Jenkinsââ¬â¢s thesis can be considered as rather controversial.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The blues is the music which traditionally reflects the feelings and emotions of the African-Americans in relation to their state in the country, the peculiarities of their living and visions of their life. Thus, the main ideas of the blues are closely con nected with the issues of justice and liberties in the society. That is why it is possible to discuss the blues in the context of social and ethical significance. To understand this significance, it is useful to refer to Michael Sandelââ¬â¢s ideas about social liberties which reflect some which are typical for the blues. Social justice can be based on individual rights and the freedom of choice[5]. This idea is close to the ethics of the blues because the blues is the music of freedom of will, choice, and desires which are not limited by restrictive social norms. It is difficult to define the blues as a notion and to develop strict considerations about its meaning and significance because the blues is the music of the souls which freedom cannot be limited by any social, cultural or philosophical norms. Learning Theories Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Learning Theories - Essay Example Activities in the lesson plan are already aligned with principles of Cognitivism. Cognitivism is concerned about making students fully understand the concepts (Casas, 2011). Contrary to Behaviorism, which relies on memorization for mastery of the subject (Arizona State University), Cognitivism relies on higher thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis and evaluation. Therefore, to incorporate principles of Cognitivism in the current lesson, one should focus on making students use higher thinking skills in mastering the concepts that will be taught. The first means of instruction is to use visual and verbal content at the same time. It entails the use of visual aids in the explanation of the story to better facilitate expedient learning on the students. The use of pictures is important because it appeals to the visual sense of the students. It is not enough to just mention Mississippi to engage students. Pictures will aid in making them imagine what they can find in the setting of the story. Also, instead of making students read the story right away, it will help students to understand the story more if the teacher presents vocabulary words used in the story. The short story makes use of the setting to highlight the theme. Therefore, for the main task, students are assigned to construct the timeline of the story. In making the timeline, they are expected to base their work on the events of the story. Making the timeline will challenge their analytical skills as they cut out Grandma Phoenixââ¬â¢s trail. Likewise, the visuals they will make will help to strengthen their knowledge of the plot, hence lead them to a deeper understanding of the story.

QUESTION SET Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
QUESTION SET - Movie Review Example a. The Powhatan people were Native Americans living in the present day Virginia. These people lived in villages which could be made up of up to one hundred homes. Some of their villages were separated and protected by wooden palisades and had carefully guarded gardens. They were farmers and they sowed corn, peas, beans and sunflowers. The Powhatan lived in confederacy to protect themselves from intrusions. This did not change with the arrival of the English people. b. Among the Powhatan people, it was the tradition for the chief to bow down during the coronation ceremony (500 Nations). This did not happen with Wahusenaka who refused to bow down because of his hatred for the English intruders. This heavily contrasts with Smithââ¬â¢s adoption ceremony where bowing was witnessed. Wahusenakaââ¬â¢s refusal to bow made the ceremony to end on a bad note. a. The Squanto story matters today as it explores the origin of the collaboration between the Native Americans and the English people. When the English people arrived in their Mayflower ship, it was Squanto who welcomed them and taught them how to survive in the land. Sammoset and Massasoit fit into the story because of the contribution they made towards ensuring the peace and the long standing collaboration between the two groups (500 Nations). In the story thanksgiving came about when Squanto taught the foreigners the need to feast together after harvest was gathered. a. Wampanoag treated the English people differently compared to the Powhatans. Massasoitââ¬â¢s Wampanoag had a treaty with the foreigners in which they were not to engage in any kind of activities which would harm one another. This created a spirit of peace and collaboration. b. The English people expected and were confident that Wampanoag would adhere to the English rules and customs due to the treaty which was in place (500 Nations). The leaders were also full of wisdom and prudence and thus they would strive to ensure

Sexual Harassment in the Hospitality Industry Research Paper
Sexual Harassment in the Hospitality Industry - Research Paper Example cated that sexual harassment occurred when there is opportunistic exposure of genitals; inappropriate touching whenever the object is in a close contact; excessive talks on sexual matters for erotic gratification; and that troublesome spontaneous erections happen. Schneider et al. (2007) pointed that these are at times difficult to interpret specially if ambiguously illustrated as a behavior intimating sexual advances within the context of contrapower harassment. Oxford Economics (2010) defined hospitality industry from the perspective of macro-micro economy as the provision of ââ¬Å"accommodation, meals and drinks in venues where the consumption happened outside homes and as such, as business, offered services that are contributory to national or world economy. Most of the services here hotel accommodation and related services; food and catering; event management (Oxford Economics, 2010). The Commission of the European Union states pointed sexual harassment destroy the working envi ronment and impose deteriorating effect on health, confidence, morale and performance of those affected by it (Advocates for Human Rights, 2007). It hinders the right integration of women at the market (AHR, 2007). It can cause anxiety and trauma which is often affecting victimââ¬â¢s behavior and work efficiency until it could seek work elsewhere (AHR, 2007). The effects are maybe prolonged or not depending on the severity of emotional, psychological, and physical damages incurred (AHR, 2007). Thus, it can have adverse impact on the profitability of the company as it would diminish the reputation of the company (AHR, 2007). Studies further showed that those who have undergone sexual harassment has severe impact to their very private lives by having psychosomatic symptoms and diminished...Such is evident in leisure-based business such as in cruise lines, airlines, hotels, restaurants, bars, resorts, and the like (Ispas, 2010). As an industry designed to cope with desired level of competitiveness, human resources ought to rediscover genuine concept of competitiveness as capitalized by managers of hospitality industry for improved and strategic hospitality services (Þuclea & Pà £durean, 2008; Ispas, 2010). Experts posit that managers should also focus on performance and policy control to maintain quality service as decisive factors in protecting the employees from harassing customers (Þuclea & Pà £durean, 2008). Strategic orientation and raising competitiveness must be undertaken to protect employees from all types of sexual exploitation and harassments that could be employed by any customer to the workers (Þuclea & Pà £durean, 2008; Emilian, Tuclea, Tala & Brà ®ndusoiu, 2009). Itââ¬â¢s sad to note that this industry which is contributory for national development is riddled with sad experiences that are detrimental to victim-workers and to the image of the company (Oxford Economics, 2010). If all of these industries are saddled with cases, it would certainly have some severe impact to the economy as well. In UK economy for instance, there is about an estimate of à £90 billion in 2010 for hospitality industry and the same has offered à £46 billion to the UK economy in GVA (Oxford Economics, 2010).

Comparing the Role of Social Class in The Necklace and Recitatif Essay
The Role of Social Class in The Necklace and Recitatifà à à à Often in a piece of literature, a story will appear to be about one issue when, in actuality, the author intended it to be about another. In the short stories "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant and "Recitatif" by Toni Morrison, the issues of class separation and struggle, though they may appear at first glance to be unimportant, are in fact the central points around which these two stories revolve. In "The Necklace" and "Recitatif," class differences affect the ways in which the characters interact with one another. Nowhere in the story "Recitatif" is this more apparent than in the meeting between Roberta and Twyla's mothers at the orphanage. Twyla describes Roberta's mother as tall, prim, and proper. She adds, "on her chest was the biggest cross I'd ever seen..." (page 213). In direct contrast to this is the image of Twyla's mother, a woman who wears revealing pants and a ragged old jacket and curses in church. Roberta's mother clearly looks down upon Twyla's because she is of a lower class, as illustrated by her refusal to shake her hand. In "The Necklace," class differences between Mathilde and Mme. Forestier put an obvious restriction upon their relationship. By the end of the story, Mathilde becomes a member of the lower class - "the woman of impoverished households - strong and hard and rough..." (page 71). When the two ladies meet again in the last lines of the story, Mm e. Forestier is "astonished to be addressed by this plain goodwife" (page 72). In a parallel event from "Recitatif," Roberta looks down upon Twyla when they meet in a Howard Johnson's. She sees Twyla in her "blue-and-white triangle" uniform, "[her] hair shapeless in a net," and "[her] ankle... ... between the characters play the central role in the action of the story. These differences affect the ways in which these characters interact, they create the conflict in the story, and they affect the way the reader feels about and reacts to each of the characters. In making the issue of social class the focus of these two works, the authors successfully communicate to the readers their belief that, no matter how hard we might try to avoid it, class is indeed a major factor in today's society. à Works Cited de Maupassant, Guy. (iv) Family education is not only the education of the pre-school education, but also all life education.â⬠[3]P523.Main problems in todayââ¬â¢s Chinese family education 3.1 Parentsââ¬â¢ mistake in conception of value and wrong activities leading A childââ¬â¢s conception of morality and value orientation learns from acquistion, especially from his parents. So parents affect the childââ¬â¢s mind great ly.ââ¬Å"(i) If parents always say some positive view, such as, ââ¬ËMoney makes the mare goââ¬â¢ or ââ¬ËMoney talks.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ [4]P23 The child may form a conception that people live in order to make money which is a wrong view of value. (ii) Parents sometimes endorse some wrong behaviors, the child may form an idea that those wrong behaviors are right. 3.2 Utopian expectation of childrenââ¬â¢s educationChinese parents produce a great impact on childrenââ¬â¢s future. When a baby born in a Chinese family, his parents often design a future for him, no matter the child likes it or not. That is to say, Chinese parents would enforce their children living under the designed future instead of considering childrenââ¬â¢s feelings and abilities. ââ¬Å"Just as Phierbaha says ââ¬ËParentsââ¬â¢ biggestà false is they stand in their position and interfere childrenââ¬â¢s nature development.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ [5]P24 In China, we can find the following scenes easily: Pa rents take their children to various kinds of lessons after school. Children would be punished if they didnââ¬â¢t get a good mark in examinations. 3.3 Harmful types of family education3.3.1 A utocratic type of family education In some Chinese families, parents require their children should do whatever they want their children do. If the children didnââ¬â¢t do as their order, they will scold the children, even worse, they will punish the children. ââ¬Å"A questionnaire of 300 students in a middle school shows: Ninety percent of the students had been punished!â⬠[6]P24. They canââ¬â¢t bear that children didââ¬â¢t obey them. They restrict their children. They check their childrenââ¬â¢s cellphone. 3.3.2 Indulgent type of family educationParentsââ¬â¢ love is very important for the psychology development of teenagers. However, in modern China, a child is probably the only child in a family, and parents give too much love to the child. It leads to a situation that t he child canââ¬â¢t live without their parents. They seldom run into troubles because their parents had already solved the problem for them before they meet the problem. This kind of children canââ¬â¢t get along with other people very well. They consider themselves as the most important ones. Even worse, they may not have enough independent ability to live in the society without their parentsââ¬â¢ help. When they go to society, they will feel depressed. ââ¬Å"In a investigation of 4000 youth criminals, 16.3% of them receive this kind of family education. â⬠3.3.3 Careless type of family education It usually refers to parents who lack of responsibility to take care of their children. Young parents are working hard to make money. They donââ¬â¢t have enough time to get along with their children. According to a survey, the children whose parents are individual entrepreneur, taxi driver or labor contractor, break the law easily. The main reason is the parents mentioned ab ove, who have few time at home. Even they are at home, they seldom put their hearts on their children. They simply think if they provides a good living condition for their children, who will become a talent. This type ofà family education is dangerous. Childrenââ¬â¢s thought is not mature enough to judge all the things in a right way. It is easy for children to choose the wrong way to go.3.3.4 Changeable type of family educationThe children had been influenced greatly by this type of family education. For parents, the way to present this kind of education is self-contradictory. In other words, one parent is severe, another indulgent. Or the same behavior, is allowed today, but is forbidden tomorrow. A great number of research proved that childrenââ¬â¢s behaviors have a close connection with the changeable type of family education when they are young.3.4 Bringing up by elder generation show more disadvantagesBringing up by elder generation means more chance to spoil the child ren. The popular situation is that children raised by grand-parents. In this way, there are more disadvantages than advantages. Grand-parents used the traditional view to teach their grand-sons or grand-daughters. The result of this will destroy the children. 4.Main problems in todayââ¬â¢s American family education4.1 Indulgent type of family education Different from Chinese family education, Ameirican indulgent type of family education had more harmful effection. Because over indulgent, it made a lot of social problems.Such as, teenage crime. In radio or TV, we sometimes can get a information that a 15-year-old boy shot his friend in the middle school.4.2 lack of communicationAmerican think that every member in a family, he or she should had his or her own space. In their opinions, they canâ⬠t interfere each other even they are in a family. And when a person is 18 years old, he may leave his parents. It means his has little time to stay with their parents. So they has less resbosibility to their parents. But, in Chinese peopleââ¬â¢eyes, itââ¬â¢s no a good idea to leave their parents. It may lose the chances to communicate with each other.4.3 pay too much attention on happy learningAmerican take happy learning serious. But, in fact, happy learning is good when children are young. Only pay attention to happy, parents may find that childrenââ¬â¢s learning levels are declined. For example, some students who get used to happy learning, canââ¬â¢t calculate without calculator.5.The comparison of the family educationââ¬â¢s process between China and America From the results of the family education, we can find, in the process of family education, although it is not a kind of systematic education, it still has its educational aims, contents and methods, like the schools, which play an important role in the educational system. The aims of education are the most important ones which determine family educationââ¬â¢s contents and methods.5.1 The c omparison of the contents of family educationThe aim of education determines the content of education. ââ¬Å"The contents of American family education are very plentiful. American parents pay attention to their childrenââ¬â¢s all-round study.â⬠We called ââ¬Å"qualified educationâ⬠,which includes physical strength, cognition, social ability, emotion and so on. To enhance childrenââ¬â¢s physical strength, children do outdoor exercises, such as, playing on a swing, hiking. On the development of cognition, parents train childrenââ¬â¢s sense organs, enlarging their culture view and hobby. For example, when parents go to library for study or borrow some books, they always take their children with them. In this way, they can stimulate childrenââ¬â¢s interest. On the development of social ability, children are required to enjoy themselves and share things with their friends. On the development of emotion, with the help of the parents, children learn to enjoy music, art or dancing etc.Although the contents of Chinese family education are divided into morality, intelligence, physical, art etc. However, when the child at school age, intelligence is the most important. The contents of education become imbalance. In physical, Chinese parents pay more attention to childrenââ¬â¢s nutrition, they make great effects to prevent their children from diseases. Compared with American parents, this kind of education is a protection which is defensible, static and passive. Greenhouse-training can train a person strong; On intelligence, children are given knowledge, skills, such as, the books that are full of knowledge and interesting things, at the same time, they learn the skills of reading, writing and counting. When the children begin their schoolà education, family education are inclined to the tendency of school education: parents supervise childrenââ¬â¢s study, check their homework, buy extracurricular exercises for the children. On art education , more and more parents realize the important professional skills. So they request children to learn drawing, dancing without childrenââ¬â¢s willingness. It is a blind action, it may kill childrenââ¬â¢s talent, even worse, they may pay a good deal of money and a lot of time but without good results. And doing this willgive too much pressure to children. By comparison, American family educationââ¬â¢s contents are substantial and scientific. On the contrary, Chinese family educationââ¬â¢s contents are narrow, limited and not scientific. For example, in Chinese family education, physical is less important than intelligence.Chinese parents pay more attention on childrenââ¬â¢s health from which is the low-level content. Children ignore physical training, lack of outdoor exercises, stay at home to watch television. Then the number of getting adiposity become larger. Intelligence includes practical ability and latent capacity. Practical ability is what you know, what skills and knowledge you should master. Chinese family education always ignore skills, such as, living skill, working skill, communicative skill etc. American people take these skills seriously instead of ignoring them. In their opinion, these skills are the basic quality to stand on the social stage.Chinese family education ignore not only some practical abilities, but also latent capacities which are divided into study ability and creativity. Chinese parents seem to think highly of knowledge study, in fact, they only pay attention to the low-level knowledge which just can deal with school examinations. In a questionnaire called ââ¬Å"how to train teenagersââ¬â¢ creative ability.â⬠There is a question , ââ¬Å"If you find your children trying to take a clock apart, what will you do?â⬠40% of parents will scold the children. 48% of parents will use a way without patience. From this questionnaire, we can find out Chinese parentsââ¬â¢ ideas of training creation should be impr oved.By comparison, American parents pay attention to childrenââ¬â¢s multi-hobby and creation-consciousness training. Most American experts adviced that not to learn knowledge without comprehension study. When children come back home from school, Chinese parents always ask a question ââ¬Å"Do you remember what the teacher teach?â⬠or ââ¬Å"Do you get a good mark on todayââ¬â¢s test?â⬠Yet, American parents will ask ââ¬Å"Do you ask teacher some questions?â⬠or ââ¬Å"Is the lessonà interesting today?â⬠This present the different opinions on intelligence between Chinese parents and American parents. 5.2 The comparison of the aims of family educationFamily educationââ¬â¢s aims determine itââ¬â¢s direction. So the aims of family education are the core, which is the basic reason of the different family education between Chinese and American. Family educationââ¬â¢s aim is to train a child with some characteristics through family education. Once the aim is determined, education contents and methods should be chosen according to the aims. So whatââ¬â¢s the different aims of Chinese family education and American family education, or we can say the different expectations of the parents in the two countries.American family educationââ¬â¢s aims are to train the child into a social man, who can deal with all kinds of events and own independent ability. It is not a high expectation. ââ¬Å"Social manâ⬠is not an utopia idea, but a requirement which is practical and easy to achieve. So American parents have a relaxed attitude to educate their children. They are good at finding out the active parts from their childrenââ¬â¢s individuality. And the children can find their value from family education. In fact, this kind of education can achieve good results.According to this aim, they can train their childrenââ¬â¢s independent ability. Letââ¬â¢s see American children in different periods. When they are still a baby, th ey sleep alone; When they can walk by themselves, they seldom ask parents for help; When they grow up, they own their rooms and they should clean the rooms by themselves; They do what they can do from childhood to make money. For example, they do house cleaning, be a baby sitter, send newspapers; When they go to senior middle school or university, they do part-time jobs to make money for the cost of living. By comparison, Chinese family educationââ¬â¢s aim is to train the child into a talent, who has a bright future. A bright future means to get a good job and to lead a simple life all their life time.First, this aim is high and full of utility. It is hard to achieve, because ââ¬Å"having a bright futureâ⬠is not an ordinary aim. Because of the aim, Chinese parents especially concern about childrenââ¬â¢s study achievements. Their only requirement is that their children can concentrate all the attentions on study. At the same time, they ignore their childrenââ¬â¢s extr aordinary abilities, damage their imaginations. At the end, parents would kill the talents before the childrenà become qualified persons. Although Chinese children study very hard, and get good achievements. They lack of abilities to suit this society. Sometimes, parentsââ¬â¢ expectation would come to nothing.5.3 The comparison of the methods of family educationThe methods of family education are the concrete measure of education contents. The choices of which education methods are connected closely to a nationââ¬â¢s custom, culture and history. At the same time, it is restricted by education aims. Conversely, whether the parents can use the scientific education methods properly is connected to the realization of family educationââ¬â¢s aims and contents. Generally speaking, in American families, ââ¬Å"parents mainly use an equal way to educate their children. They respect childrenââ¬â¢s personality and rights. Children, in the family, are treated as independent individ uals. Parents and children are equal.â⬠By comparison, Chinese family educationââ¬â¢s methods lack of equality. Chinese parents donââ¬â¢t treat their children on the same level as themslves. Instead, parents stand for the elder generation and the children stand for younger generation. American parents advocate the open education:First, they pay attention to practical training, emphasis on training children in practice instead of preaching. In Americanââ¬â¢s opinion, if the children can do the work, let them do it. Through the process of doing the work, they can improve their recognition of things, accumulate experiences, master skills, enhance capacities, develop hobbies and consolidate self-confidence and responsibility. We can say, American parents give the key of the door to children instead of opening the door for the children.Second, American parents think play and game are very important. They think play is the most important thing when children are young. In Amer ican, children take part in all kinds of activities, do a lot of outdoor exercises. There are a lot of good places for them to do exercises. On the weekend, parents go out for tour with children. In the process of playing, the children develop their intelligence, such as imagination, judgement, communication with other people and emotion adjusting and so on.. Chinese parents advocate the close education:First, they ignore the importance of practical training, instead they pay attention to preaching. The requirement to children is study. All the things, including what the children can do by themselves, are done by their parents. It is the reason why Chinese children learn a lot of knowledge but can hardly do anything when they enter the society. Second, they lack of outdoor exercises because Chinese children have endless homework. They live under the pressure of a lot of examinations. At the same time, they canââ¬â¢t find a good place to do outdoor exercises. Because of different education types, American family education and Chinese family education show different methods. So, we can try to turn our close education into open education. American family education methods present in four aspects:First, children have their right to speak, in other words, they can show their opinions on family affairs. American parents inspire their children to say what they want to say . Second, American children have right to choose, when the children start to show their ability to cognize things, they would like the children to choose by themselves. The children can choose games, books, friends, jobs and so on. American parents wouldnââ¬â¢t put their opinions on their children. Most of the time, their role is to lead the children to choose, or they only stand behind the children, to give them confidence.Third, American parents can make friends with their children, they can communicate on the base of equality. Fourth, American parents respect childrenââ¬â¢s rights of pri vacy. Chinese family education methods also present in four aspects: First, children have less right to speak, that is to say, Chinese parents require their children to obey the rules, and have few different ideas. As the American president Nixon said ââ¬Å"The task of Chinese education system is to train children into a person who is docile, completely listen to elder generation. In this way, they lose Chinese Darwin and Einstein.â⬠Second, Chinese children have limited right to choose and most of them would like to do things according to parentsââ¬â¢ willingness. Third, Chinese parents always appear with a image of authority so their status are higher than their children at home. Fourth, Chinese parents always destroy childrenââ¬â¢s rights of privacy. For example , their school bags are searched; diaries are peeked. We can find that differet family education methods present in different aspects. American pay attention to the rightà children own, but Chinese never thin k so. The democratic method of education which is a kind of loose and comfortable education, and presents a great deal of advantages: For one thing, it helps to train creative ideas. Loose and comfortable conditions are the most important to stimulate childrenââ¬â¢s creativities.Under high pressure, childrenââ¬â¢s creative ideas would be constrained. On the contrary, in a happy and calm family atmosphere, children can be stimulated easily. To produce a loose and comfortable atmosphere, parents should build a relationship equalled with children. For another, it helps to form healthy personality. Children would take part in family affairs actively, to express their own opinions, stop being afraid, and be full of self-confidence and responsibility if they are given the rights of speaking, attending and choosing. In addition, this kind of relation can inspire children to share their secrets to their parents. At the same time, parents can understand childrenââ¬â¢s thoughts. It u rges children to form a good personality. However, autocratic method of education presents a kind of restrained education, which constrains creation and the development of personality.6.The comparison of the family educationâ⬠s results between China and America Different results of education are due to different contents, aims and methods, which can be discovered after comparison . Generally speaking, American children show distinguishing features when they are very young. For example, they show great enthusiasm, keep calm when they run into troubles, get on well with other people, have great power and are full of new ideas, strong independent ability and social ability. Because they are independent from parents when they are 18, they are full of more confidence and courage.Further more, they should do part-time jobs to meet their needs of money. Having the idea of suiting market economy, they take part in money management, at the same time, they learn how to promote sales and communicate with customers. They realize money is not easily earned by all these kinds of practice. Thus, they get into a habit of thrift. In a word, the outstanding characteristics of American children are their great abilities and the adaption to the society smoothly. However, Chinese children, teenagers, even university students, who do well in their studies, show negative tendency in their characteristics. In more details, theyà behave in a passive way, such as timid, having deep-rooted dependent mentality, lacking of the ability to communicate with other people.Even worse, with poor independent viability, they canââ¬â¢t deal with money in a proper way. In short, they are lack of the ability to adapt to the society. All of these characteristics, which can be found from Chinese children, are due to Chinese ââ¬Å"diploma-educationâ⬠. Chinese parents expect their children to study hard in the school instead of taking part in the changeable society. Nowadays, what kind of the education results fits the society? Social development needs manââ¬â¢s activity, creativity and humanityââ¬â¢s liberation. As the civilization develops, more and more people need to focus on the development of humanity and the ability to do all kinds of things. So we can say todayââ¬â¢s society needs active and all-round talents. Obviously, American family education can train a child, who is full of creativity and capability, by comparison, Chinese family education only can produce a ââ¬Å"talentâ⬠, who is good at studying and obeying the rules. It is the result of ââ¬Å"examination-center-educationâ⬠, which can do harm to our teenagersââ¬â¢ body and mind. So Chinese family education needs a reform immediately.7.The causes of family educationââ¬â¢s differences between China and America In modern society, parents take education seriously in Amreican the same as those in China. Why these two kinds of family education have so many differences? To sum up, the causes of different education are:7.1 The different history backgroundsAmerican, which is an emigrant country with a short history, has less old culture. Affected by multi-culture and multi-value, it can accept new thoughts and culture more quickly without restriction. So compared with Chinese people, they possess more adventure and creation sprits. However, China had a long history, at the same time, it reserves more old culture, especially is affected by feudal farmerââ¬â¢s idea for a long period. Its culture value is conservative and cautious, which lacks of adventure spirits and creation consciousness. Chinese people are educated to be obedient, comparative and lack of an environment to accept new ideas on the whole.7.2 The different economic patternsAmerican productive force is advanced. Its commodity economy is flourishing. There are a lot of opportunity to get jobs. The pressure of living are limited. Moreover, The United States is a society of capabilities, where the system of is perfect, staff are free. And they have a lot of opportunities of changing a job. It means there are various of jobs for Americans to choose. In American parentsââ¬â¢ opinions if children can base themselves on the society, no matter the job is highly valued or not. Besides, commodity economy is changing in every minute, jobs are changing too. So parents never think their children can live a smooth life.Consequently, American family educationââ¬â¢s aim is to focus on training children into ââ¬Å"humanâ⬠It seems more macroscopic and wide-ranged. It meets all changes by remaining unchanged. By contrast, ââ¬Å"China is a developing country. The pressure of living is great. China is a society of diplomas. Jobs are stable, so Chinese always put all their happiness on a job. Their choosing are limited. Chinese parents think good study achievement can bring a good job for their children. It is a smooth way of life, and it is also the best way for a person.â⬠Therefore, Chinese family educationââ¬â¢s aim is to focus on training children into ââ¬Å"talentsâ⬠.7.3 The different social conditionsAmerican have good economic conditions, perfect old-age social system. American parents donââ¬â¢t have the idea that rearing children against old age. Instead, they think when they become old, they can go to old peopleââ¬â¢s home to live the rest of their life. So they rear the children to 18 years old, who become independent persons, and they finish their jobs without considering what the children will be in the future. They donââ¬â¢t care about whether the children will bring honor to them or not.By comparison, China, a nation which economic condition is poor, has incomplete social old-age system, and exists some old conception questions. Chinese parents consider that childrenââ¬â¢s education is connected with the rest of their life. They treat the children as their own property, require children to pay back for them. And the t hing that presents it in their ways is education. Many Chinese parents treat the thing of beating children as a personal affair. They think no one can interfere, let alone the law. 7.4 The different traditional cultures7.4.1 Different value orientationsAmericans pay attention to personality, their value orientation is based on the individualism. They lay stress on their own benefits, advocate individual improvement and find their own true value. It is the core of American culture. An American scholar pointed out: In a democratic society, every citizen has his own goal, which is himself. In the family, individual is the most basic one, which is the valuable, independent from his family relation and doesnââ¬â¢t depend on others. So in American family, parents used to treat themselves and their children as two separate individual. ââ¬Å"Selfâ⬠doesnââ¬â¢t only include parents themselves but the children selves. To carry out childrenââ¬â¢s self-value, parents should respec t childrenââ¬â¢s willingness, interest and hobby first. But American parents attach importance to enjoying their life. They wouldnââ¬â¢t give up to go to cinema because of the children. Chinese pay attention to general character. They have a conception, which is the most important. The conception is collective spirit. In other words, it means considering things as a whole. It emphasizes collective interest more important than individual interest. Chinese consider that a person is living in contrast with other people. From ancient time to the present, ââ¬Å"selfâ⬠, this conception results from contrast with other people, that is, individual value only can live with othersââ¬â¢ relations in Chinese society. In Chinese family, parents lose themselves at the same time, they donââ¬â¢t respect their children.ââ¬Å"The way that Chinese parents lose themselves presents as following: they consider children as their own, as a continuation of themselves; their children seems to be their whole lives and hopes; they put all their hopes on their children. This kind of parents would use their determination to replace their childrenââ¬â¢s.â⬠[10] P62 They think from adultââ¬â¢s view. So we can find Chinese parents always set an impractical goal for their children. American pay attention to personality while Chinese pay attention to general character. It has its economic background. In the structure of modern capitalism, Americanââ¬â¢s commodity economy defeated nature economy. And it exists for more than a hundred years. In the condition of commodity economy, individual is independent relatively. One person, if he wants to develop in the competition of commodity economy, he must improve himself. Therefore, in the commodity economy society, people keep a tradition which is to value self the most important. By comparison,à Chineseââ¬â¢s nature economy existed for thousands of years. Chinese are get used to tying on the land. Individuals lack o f the condition of developing by themselves. Through dozens of years planned economy, even more than twenty years of market economy, Chinese canââ¬â¢t get rid of the dependency. Individualââ¬â¢s development often need other peopleââ¬â¢s help. Even evaluating an individual is carried out by comparing with other persons. So Chinese like taking part in community, in order not to be isolated. Ã¥âÅ'Americans encourage rationalism. Their family education praise rationalism highly, which they treat as a basic principle to deal with family members and family affairs. Most of American parents consider the obligation of raising a child the same as the obligation to the society. It does stand not only in an individual position but the social position. In Americansââ¬â¢ opinions family education is considered as an obligation, so Americans never want to get something back from their children. They consider that they ought to go to the old peopleââ¬â¢s home. Of course, it is bas ed on American perfect social security system and their culture.Chinese encourage affection which is considered to be the most important thing in Chinese society. Chinese family education, human relation is the base and emotion is the rule to deal with the relation of family. Chinese parents consider the children as their own private property, from the angle of their honor. Chinese parents take the greatest care of their children but with a conception of getting back something from their children. From this point of view, we can understand why more Chinese parents expect their children to be talented than American parents does. They put too much material gain in the aim of family education.8 Suggestions This paper is comparing the vague generalization of family education between China and America. Chinese family education and American family education have their own characteristics. Furthermore, American family education has its disadvantage either. Apparently, the paper doesnââ¬â ¢t aim at denying American family education or Chinese family education. Through the comparison, this paper puts forward some suggestions that suit for Chinese family education.8.1 For education aims: turn ââ¬Å"talentâ⬠education intoà ââ¬Å"humanâ⬠education. Through the comparison, we can find, American family educationââ¬â¢s aim more fits the development of society. At the same time, it can produce more creative persons. We canââ¬â¢t deny, in Chinese examination education, we kill a lot of talents .If we want to change the situation, we need family educationââ¬â¢s help. Generally speaking ,as the enhance of social productive force, the society competition becomes more and more fierce. A personââ¬â¢s comprehensive quality becomes more and more important. In fact, this comprehensive quality is the basic human education. Using human education as our family educationââ¬â¢s aim, Chinese will get rid of the mistaken ideas of family education.8.2 For educa tion contents: ââ¬Å"turn ââ¬Ëone-sidedââ¬â¢ family education into ââ¬Ëall-roundââ¬â¢ family education. Todayââ¬â¢s aim of family education is to teach intelligent knowledge. Because of the wrong aim, the intelligent education is the most important. This kind of education, will make childrenââ¬â¢s quality development unbalanced so that they canââ¬â¢t fit for this changeable society. After setting up ââ¬Å"humanâ⬠education as our family educationââ¬â¢s aim, parents should improve childrenââ¬â¢s comprehensive quality. If we want to improve childrenââ¬â¢s comprehensive quality, we should turn one-sided family education into all-round family education, especially education of latent energy, morality and temper.8.3 For education methods: turn ââ¬Å"restrainedâ⬠education into ââ¬Å"loose and comfortableâ⬠education, turn ââ¬Å"closedâ⬠education into ââ¬Å"openâ⬠education. Affected by Chinese culture, parents have more power than democracy. This kind of education is harmful for teenagersââ¬â¢ mature. Modern society should advocate loose and comfortable education and open education. 8.4 To set up a conception of qualified educationNowadays, education reformââ¬â¢s core is to improve educationââ¬â¢s quality. ââ¬Å"The main aim of education is to teach children to learn from how to live to care other people then responsible for others.â⬠Concerning to family education, parents should set up a conception of qualified education. Qualified education is based on humanââ¬â¢s physiology and psychology, which has nature peculiarity. It is a kind of education that can train teenagers all-round development. Furthermore, its goal is to fit the needs of the societyââ¬â¢s development.Through qualified education, parents teach the youth playing, working and communicating which are the abilities a person shouldà own in modern society. Quality education aims to improve every aspect of quality a tale nt needs. It is not only a conception of qualified education but also a conception of value. Only when the parents set up the conception and use it as family educationââ¬â¢s guide, can the children get used to this society quickly and smoothly. 8.5 To turn sole education into multiple educationIn Chinese, many parents aim the goal of education on intellective education. So they ignore non-intellective education which concerns childrenââ¬â¢s physiology health. Scientific family education should give first place to intellective education and in addition, take care of childrenââ¬â¢s physiology, psychology, knowledge. Besides, parents not only teach the children knowledge of culture, which is necessary in a personââ¬â¢s life, but teach other kinds of knowledge. Although to increasing knowledge of culture does good to intellective development, it is not sure it helps a lot.8.6 To turn knowledge education into capability educationIn todayââ¬â¢s society, development of moder n science has put training ability in a higher position than teaching knowledge. Family education demands the parents not only to give children food but the skills to get food. Chinese should change the method which focuses on the knowledge, turn knowledge education into capability education. Ability is the intelligence that people finish a task or achieve their goals It is the result of psychology condition and physiology condition. It includes intelligence skill system, motivation structure system and operating skill system. These three systems connect with each other and inspire one by one. A personââ¬â¢s development level depends on the whole ability system which is formed by them.8.7 To use scientific mode of family education to speed the refrom of family education8.7.1 Creative type of educationââ¬Å" This kind of education pays close attention to the development of childrenââ¬â¢s latent energy, which fixes eyes upon the use and training of intelligence. It advocates on creative study through active research and self improvement. ââ¬Å"The basic education mode is: cognition-research-creation-application, which is peopleââ¬â¢s ability ofà acquiring and using knowledge, and the wisdom that people show.â⬠It includes observing ability, memorial ability, thinking ability, practical ability and so on. These abilities connect with each other and restrict each other. They are always considered as a whole.
